Are you Travel Nurse Equipped?

Being a nurse, you know it helps to have the proper equipment to do any procedure or activity. Traveling across the country is definitely an activity you need to be equipped for.

You may already be carrying everything, but the kitchen sink in your car for your next assignment. Do you really need to bring more equipment for the journey itself? Yes, I would encourage you to at least bring the following items:

Cell phone with charger

Air pump for your tires

Emergency service info

(AAA number or insurance towing service etc.)

Jumper cables

A spare key in your purse or wallet

Tire pressure gauge

Flashlight

Jack and spare tire

I want to share a true story with you. Recently, I decided to practice what I preach and buy an air pump myself. I am talking about the kind of inexpensive air pump that plugs into your cigarette lighter to inflate your tires on the spot. You can find these pumps at any K-mart or Walmart store. Once I bought the air pump, I continued on my errands at the local grocery store. Wouldn’t you know……one of my tires were flat when I came back out of the store. I had managed to run over a nail on my short trip from the auto parts store to the grocery store. I couldn’t believe it. This type of things rarely happens to me and what timing for it to happen.

Don’t be led into an assignment because the opportunity might pass you by. Don’t worry, that same hospital will have an assignment again in the future. The opportunity will come again, perhaps when you are more prepared for it. Also, there are so many neat options that you won’t have trouble find a comparable assignment.

Well you know what I did, of course. I got out my nifty pump and in no time I was on the road again. I drove home and took my car to the tire store the following day. I knew I could afford to wait until the next day because I had the pump if I needed to use it again. I guess the cosmic forces were speaking to me. Getting the pump was the right thing to do.
